How to Play

Play Apple & Onion Messin' Around online for free. Messin' Around is a game where you help protect Onion's sleep quality by blocking items thrown by the evil cat Sooty. Hover over items to collect them and organize them in a box instead of letting them hit Onion's bed or make a loud crashing sound when hitting the ground. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

Starting the Game

Click on the white and lime yellow to green arrow on the game’s welcome screen.
The welcome screen also has a sound control button in the upper right corner.
Game Controls
- Desktop
  - Use your mouse to scroll around the screen and touch items Sooty throws to set them in the box.
  - Starting in week two, be sure you do not bump into any baby ducklings!
  - Mobile
    - Touch the screen with your finger to hit and remove items. You can drag your finger along the screen just like a mouse cursor.
    - The small screen size makes it easier to hit most items on a mobile device, though the finger sometimes obstructing views can make some aspects harder. The ability to quickly lift a finger off the screen when near ducks (instead of having to move the cursor across the screen) is ideal as well.
    - Game Strategy
      - Stay asleep
        Keep any and all items from hitting Onion’s bed. A sock does as much damage as a soccer ball.
        In some cases you can hit items early, like hitting a gym bag before it goes very far & before the socks spread out.
        Level changes
        As you progress through the level be aware of the impacts of new items which appear in new levels.
        On level 4 Sooty throws coffee mugs which only move a foot or two before crashing to the ground. The sound of the mugs breaking counts as a hit against Onion.
        On level 8 baby ducks appear in the level. If you click any of them the mother duck makes a ruckus at the window and wakes up Onion.
        Bonus rounds
        The game has periodic bonus rounds. After the seventh day there is a water bottle bonus round on the roof.
        Screen size
        This game uses responsive web design, so it should work on just about any sized screen.
        If you are having trouble keeping up with moving the cursor fast enough you can shrink the size of your web browser window to make it easier to catch up.
        Conversely, if you keep accidentally hitting ducks you can increase the browser window size.
        Dying
        If Onion wakes up before the morning comes it is game over.
        Onion wakes up when he or his bed are hit a total of 5 times (or, if they are hit 3 times & 2 coffee mugs break, etc).
        Onion wakes up if the mother duck makes a ruckus.
        You are primarily concerned with items that will fall on the right side of the screen near Onion. Things which fall on the left half of the screen near Apple only harm you if they make a crashing sound (like the coffee mugs do).
        You can repeat the same level an unlimited number of times – just click on the date number on the calendar on the game over score screen to restart it.
        If you close the game then when you later restart it you will start back at level 1.
        Scoring points
        Your score is cumulative across levels & if you play the same level multiple times your score will add those points.
        If you catch many items consecutively you will earn a bonus. If the bonus says 13x it means you will score 13 times as much for catching that item, so rather than scoring 100 points you will earn 1,300 points.
        Target Audience
        This game is fun for Apple & Onion fans of all ages.
        There are no adult themes in this game.
